The first EarthMotherMosaics Workshop has been completed! What fun we all had! I had the great honor and joy of showing some of the nicest ladies on the planet the basic way to create a mosaic by using a 4 inch coaster with pre-cut stained glass in triangles using the dry grout method. Easy cleanup and no mess which is perfect for a borrowed classroom or a small table in your home or apartment! The class was held on February 2nd and 23rd at the Keith Valley Middle School in Horsham, PA. They learned how to use nippers, used the abrasive stone for the sharp edges and learned that a plastic lid can make a perfect grout scraper! As a special "thank you" for being in my first workshop, they each received a small mosaic magnet made by yours truly.

Another class or two will be held (hopefully for basics and intermediate) during the summer session at KV. The Mt Airy Learning Center in PA has also scheduled a workshop for basic mosaics in the middle of April. More dates and information will follow soon. If you live locally, please consider joining in the fun!!

Recently I received an email from a long-time friend regarding an ongoing project at the Holocaust Museum in Houston, TX. It's called The Butterfly Project. The activity title is "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" and it's purpose is to get 1.5 million handmade butterflies representing the number of children who perished in the Holocaust by the Spring of 2013. I will be making a 2-D, 8 x 10 inch butterfly as per their instructions in mosaic form. I'll also be offering a free workshop periodically for anyone who wants to come and make a butterfly of their own to contribute after my move this summer. As they develop, I will include details in the blog, on the website and on my fan page on Facebook. Here's the link for the full description and more information if you are interested (individuals, churches, schools, all other organizations are welcome to participate):

The Providence Hospital Novi, MI mural projects (4 in toto) have been completed and are cataloged beautifully in a new book written by Brit Hammer entitled: "BREAKOUT! Your Pathway to Success". Lin Schorr's vision and a mutual love for mosaics brought global colleagues together creating 4 pieces of mosaic art in the form of "Swirlendipity I", "Swirendipity II", "Amuzapalooza!" and "Heartistry". Personally, I feel blessed to have found such a wonderful group of people sharing the love of mosaics as I do and for my small contributions in the creation of these mosaic murals. Thanks to Lin and Brit for helping show the world what an amazing art form mosaics can be and for the experience to be a part of it all.

Brit's book "BREAKOUT! Your Pathway to Success" featured on her website, includes a foreword written by Alyson B. Stanfield author of "I'd Rather Be In The Studio!". This new book can be ordered in e-book format, soft cover and hard cover additions through her website:

Special thanks goes to Lin Schorr for providing the progress of these beautiful murals on her photostream. Hopefully I'll be a small part of many of her ideas whenever she needs it. I like the way she thinks!!
